Samsung today took the wraps off of its third Tizen smartphone, the Z2.

Perhaps the most notable feature of the Samsung Z2 is its 4G support. The Z2 is the first Tizen smartphone with 4G capabilities, a move that Samsung says will help make 4G more accessible to new smartphone users. Manu Sharma, VP of Mobile Business for Samsung India Electronics, said:

“Samsung Z2 makes 4G accessible and relevant to the unique needs of feature phone users and first time smartphone buyers. It brings consumers a fast and affordable mobile internet experience that will democratize 4G usage in the country.”

When it comes to raw specs, the Samsung Z2 features a 4-inch 800×480 display and VGA camera on its face, and around back is a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. Inside of the Z2 lives a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD slot, and dual SIM support. There’s a 1,500mAh battery powering this whole package.

The Z2 runs Samsung’s Tizen OS, which Samsung says will help feature phone users transition to their first smartphone thanks to the platform’s “smart, fun, and simple attributes.” Samsung has loaded the Z2 up with Jio services like Jio Beats music streaming; Jio OnDemand for movies, music videos, and TV shows; and MyJio for managing your Jio services.

Other software features added to the Samsung Z2 include an Ultra Data Saving Mode that can save up to 40 percent of your data, an S Bike Mode that’ll filter your calls while you’re biking, and My Money Transfer for transactions and balance enquiries.

The Samsung Z2 will launch in India on August 29 in Gold, Black, and Wine Red. Pricing will be set at INR 4,590 ($68 USD).

Samsung’s Z2 slots in-between the Z1 and Z3 in terms of specs, but because it’s got 4G connectivity that the other two don’t, the Z2 could be more attractive to some consumers.
