3 Patents That Will Improve Everyday Life

Innovation is at the very core of Huawei’s
DNA. We’re committed to building a fully connected world to bring the benefits
of technology to everyone, everywhere. It’s no surprise then that Huawei is one
of the world’s largest patent holders with over 87,805 patents granted. I want
to share a few of the newer innovations that stand out for how they will help
keep us safe and make our lives easier.

Safer
Driving with Machine Learning Technology

Autonomous cars promise to reshape the
future of transportation, making driving safer and more efficient. Today many
consumer vehicles already have some autonomous systems in place, such as
automated steering and braking. However, it’s important to remember that while
these systems can temporarily control vehicles, drivers still must remain alert
and attentive.

Huawei has patented an integrated system that can detect a driver’s status and alert the driver if they are exhibiting unsafe behaviors. The system works by obtaining images of the driver and the in-vehicle environment with a camera placed in the car’s interior. Using machine learning with a convolutional neural network (CNN), the system can detect, for example, if a driver appears drowsy or is distracted by looking at a phone. The machine learning model can also detect the presence of alcohol, drugs, or guns to discourage drivers from behaving dangerously while behind the wheel. Huawei’s patented technology will help ensure drivers are paying attention to help reduce accidents and make the roads safer.

Improved
Smartphone Displays with 3D and Holographic Technology

When you think of 3D technology, a big-budget movie is likely the first thing that comes to mind. Once you put on those 3D glasses, the entire viewing experience changes and it feels like you’re in the thick of the action. Huawei’s 3D and holographic display technology is designed to bring that kind of incredible viewing experience to your smartphone.

Our 3D display and holographic display technology
can detect the angle at which someone is viewing their mobile device, and then optimize
the content on their screen to improve the viewing experience. This means that
whether your phone is in front of you, by your side or at an angle, you’ll be
able to clearly see what’s on your phone. This patent-pending technology will
be helpful for a wide range of scenarios, from using your phone while moving
around the kitchen to watching a movie while you’re exercising.

Hassle-Free
Smartphone Charging with Laser Technology

Over the past few years we’ve made
significant advancements in extending the battery life of smartphones. After
all, no one wants to constantly charge their smartphone or worry about their
device dying while they’re on-the-go. Wireless charger pads have become a
popular solution for people to charge their devices without the hassle of plugging
in a cord every time. Now imagine that you could put down your smartphone
anywhere in a room and it would charge automatically. Huawei’s patent-pending
laser charging technology will make that dream a reality.

Huawei’s laser charging technology system
can be integrated into a small box that you can install on your ceiling, much
like a smoke detector. The platform would find where your smartphone is located
in the room and automatically charge it for a hassle-free experience. Huawei’s long-range
laser charging technology can even charge multiple devices at once, making it
perfect for office settings or other places where people gather like coffee
shops. I personally can’t wait until this technology becomes ubiquitous so I’ll
never have to worry about charging my devices again.

It’s exciting to work for a company like Huawei that has connected over three people billion in 170 countries with advanced technologies that make their lives better. I look forward to seeing what cutting-edge technologies Huawei comes up with next!
