The biggest storyline from Apple’s press conference was undoubtedly confirmation that the headphone jack is no more on its brand new iPhone 7.
To combat the issue, the company introduced its wireless AirPods – but they’ll cost you.
And if you don’t fancy the prospect of those white, futuristic earphones getting lost while you run for the bus, Apple’s also introduced a new range of Beats headphones — all of which include the same W1 chip which allows one-tap connection to an iPhone.
Making up for a barren stretch, three new Beats models were all unveiled on the same evening.
Not only were updated versions of the Solo Wireless and Powerbeats ranges shown off, Beats has also introduced a new in-ear wireless earphone called the Beats X.
While you can expect the new additions to be light and comfortable, the Flex-Form cable also means you’ll no longer lose half your journey trying to untangle your life-escapers. The tips also offer in-built magnets in order to be snapped together when worn around the neck.
The practicality doesn’t end with tangle-free wires either. The Beats X also give you two hours of playback in just five minutes of charging, through something that Apple calls Fast Fuel.
If you’ve got 45 minutes’ charging time to spare, you’ll also receive a mighty impressive eight hours of playback.
As far as the Solo 3 Wireless and Powerbeats 3 Wireless go, the upgrades have refreshed an already familiar design.
Like previous models, the Solo 3 wireless come with the 360-degree pivoting ear cups, a flexible band and noise isolation. And if you thought the Fast Fuel was impressive on the Beats X, it’s this model that really gives you quick power, supplying around three hours of tunes on a five-minute charge.
While the Powerbeats don’t give you quite the same rate of speedy charging — offering one hour on a five-minute plug-in — their water and sweat resistance and 12 hours of staying power make them perfect for exercise.The freshly introduced Beats X will be available at £129 from this autumn, along with Powerbeats 3, which will be tagged at £169.
